Mount Olympus Waters Sponsors Roller Derby Women!
You go, ladies!

Roller Derby

Mount Olympus Waters is sponsoring a Wasatch Roller Derby Team, the Wasatch Women’s Club Roller Derby ladies.   It is our second year of support for this group, which raises funds for the Huntsman Cancer Center and other charities by putting on Roller Derby Events in the Salt Palace and other venues from spring through autumn.

“Last year, the teams and all of our support staff drank Mount Olympus water all season long.  You were also on our sponsorship page and in our programs as a sponsor.

Here is the newest update on Wasatch Roller Derby,” says Denise “Dez” Small of the Wasatch Women’s Club.

Wasatch Women’s Club is an organization that uses the sport of roller derby as a means to raise money and awareness for other charitable organizations.  We also encourage individuals to be active, have fun, and develop camaraderie while making a difference in their community.

“This year, WWC is hosting several events to raise money and have fun.  We are planning 12 events this year and 3 of the events are to raise money and awareness for 3 very deserving organizations.  For the specified charities, WWC will be donating 40% of its net proceeds to help make a difference for that organization.  With the other 9 events, 3 are out of state and the other 6 our around the Wasatch Front,” Dez tells Mount Olympus.

“Our first event was scheduled on Feb 9, 2010 and benefited the Utah Parents Center.  We had over 700 people at this event and raised $2,300 for Utah Parents Center.  Our second event is on March 13, 2010 and will benefit Huntsman Cancer Institute.  Physicians and scientists at Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah realize that the best way to make improvements in cancer treatments, cures, detection, and prevention is to understand cancer at a molecular and genetic level.  We hope our efforts will help Huntsman Cancer Institute continue their wonderful work,” says Dez.

“We plan to play several teams from out of state in our quest to become a high ranking roller derby team at the national level.  Some games will be played here in Utah and others we will travel to their home track to compete,” says Dez.  For the full schedule of when and where these women battle it out on roller skates go to:

Mount Olympus Supports Arial Larsen and Her
Work with Children’s Charities.
Meet Miss Mount Olympus.

Miss Mount Olympus

Arial Larsen may be coming to a school or youth club in your neighborhood to spread the word to Utah’s youth that they can grow individually, spiritually, academically and socially.

And she will bring some delicious Mount Olympus Spring Water to pass on to children who participate.

Arial is Miss Mount Olympus 2009-2010, which is part of the Miss America Scholarship organization, the largest provider of scholarships to women in the country.

A former Utah Jazz Dancer, Arial knows the importance of drinking plenty of natural spring water. “Seventy five per cent of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Even mild dehydration will slow your metabolism down as much as 3 per cent,” says Arial.

Additionally, "Lack of water is the Number One trigger of daytime fatigue. " The creator of Dance4LIFE, a foundation to serve Utah’s at-risk kids, Arial uses dance to inspire children through the use of artistic expression.

“Instill hope and our youth will come to believe they really can achieve,” says Arial, who is a University of Utah graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in human development and family studies. She is a graduate of Hillcrest High School where she was head captain of her drill team and a national honor roll student.

Arial is an avid Mount Olympus Spring Water drinker and she loves to climb the mountain that looms above our spring.

“I love to climb Mount Olympus on Thanksgiving morning each year,” says Arial.

In addition to being a full-time dance teacher at Elite Academy in Riverton, Arial has raised more than $15,000 for Children’s Charities in Utah and has committed more than a 1,500 hours of community service to the Sandy Club, a Safe Place for Boys and Girls, Midvale Boys and Girls Club, Christmas Box House and the Primary Children’s Medical Center. Arial was a recipient of one of the Top 10 Children’s Miracle Network “Miracle Maker Awards.” She has also taken her program to several of Utah’s elementary schools and appeared on television and radio to promote the impact the arts has on individuals.

We’re proud of our Miss Mount Olympus, Arial Larsen!

The Red Bull Stratos Project

Felix

Felix the Fearless wants to go where no one has gone before.

Sometime this year, daredevil pilot and skydiver Felix Baumgartner wants to become the first human being to break the speed of sound in a free fall -- from 120,000 feet above Earth.

He intends to ride in a capsule lifted by a helium balloon to the upper reaches of the stratosphere, the second atmospheric layer above Earth.

Then Baumgartner will jump out, wearing a spacesuit that is expected to protect him from the pressure of descending at sound-breaking speeds in excess of Mach 1 -- or 690 mph -- until he pulls his rip cord, releasing a parachute that will slow his descent to survivable speeds.

His plans to accomplish this lofty (some may say crazy) goal with some support from Mount Olympus Spring Water, a Salt Lake City company that has signed on as a sponsor of the endeavor, known as the Red Bull Stratos Project. Red Bull, the energy-drink maker, is the mission's main sponsor. As a secondary supporter, Mount Olympus Waters, Inc. will supply hundreds of cases of bottled water over the next few months to the team preparing Baumgartner for his record-setting attempt.

A 40-year-old native of Austria, Baumgartner derived his "Fearless Felix" nickname for an already-impressive list of skydiving and BASE jumping exploits. He has made parachute dives off some of the world's tallest buildings, and in 2003 crossed the English Channel in a free fall using a carbon wing.

On Jan. 22, he announced his plan to break a 50-year-old record for the highest free fall, set by retired U.S. Air Force Col. Joseph Kittinger, whose 1960 jump from 102,800 feet is credited with being an influential force in advancing space exploration. Kittinger, now 82, is a project adviser.

Baumgartner intends to go at least 18,000 feet higher before hurtling into the void.

"This is truly a step into the unknown. No one can accurately predict how the human body will react in the transition to supersonic speeds," he said during his announcement in New York City. "But we've got to find out. Future aerospace programs need a way for pilots and astronauts to bail out at high altitude in case of emergency."

Medical-related data collected during training jumps and the supersonic plunge will be shared with the scientific community, said Jonathan Clark, former crew surgeon for six space shuttle missions and project medical director.

But, he added, "one of the most profound benefits of Red Bull Stratos is going to be the inspiration for our youth ... The kind of stuff Felix is doing is like the early astronauts and cosmonauts."

Mount Olympus Spring Water, Inc. has teamed up before with Red Bull, supporting its air-race series, which included a 2007 stop in Monument Valley. But its interest in this project goes beyond those corporate ties, said William Bailey, owner and president of the company that, since 1898, has drawn spring water from what is now a protected source in the Mount Olympus Wilderness Area.

"Mount Olympus has a scientific interest on how different types of water affect the human body under different conditions," said Bailey.

"The human body has evolved over eons on natural waters from natural sources. We are committed to the scientific concept that since man evolved on such water, it is the form best utilized by humans," he added. "Felix will be drinking a pure water to which his body will optimally respond."

Mount Olympus Waters, Inc. will provide large volumes of MT O ReverteR, the first oxo-biodegradable and recyclable water bottle in the U.S., to the Red Bull Stratos team helping Baumgartner train for and carry out the jump.

"We're not sure exactly how many hundreds of cases of water, but we know it will be a significant amount," said Mount Olympus vice president Jim Ure, noting that the sponsorship group also includes Nokia, Microsoft and Riedel Communications. The BBC and National Geographic are producing a feature-length film about the project, called "Space Dive."

"We'll get to use this event as a tie-in to promote the Mount Olympus Spring Water name," Ure added. "We think that's a pretty good deal."
